Sleep Sounds by Jamie xx is playing on my headphones as the train is passing Wuhan at the speed of 300 kilometers per hour. A week ago, I landed in Shanghai as a percussionist with a local brass band, and I am leaving in a month from Guangzhou with Martin, an old friend of mine. The Far East seems even further than I thought. It feels like standing on an ecstasy terrace, and the world lying ahead is as innocent as I am, not ready for what is about to unfold. The body in motion. 
 Ducks’ necks will get broken, my language is forgotten, and no one knows how to read a map. The script is warping; vast fields of mandarins appear in front. And the river slowly curves to make space for a house of four. Or maybe even more. Lego bricks are everywhere, scattered around the floor, and this is the first time that it doesn’t hurt. The dogs will be eaten in the spiciest soup you will ever taste, and then you will get poisoned from it, and you will have to stay inside for days, trapped in a 60-storey concrete block. Forget the sun and forget the sky. That same evening, you will get so homesick that even a photo of the Golden Horn in Istanbul will remind you of your home, and maybe that’s why you cry in front of a kebab shop like a baby. Nothing stays the same when you go back, but I guess I’ll never know.
